Co-operative Games

The 'littlies' have all gone to lunch on the deck. The 'big kids' continue to play outside as Riiana invites everyone for a game of 'Duck, Duck, Goose, Goose.' Riiana starts off the game by being the 'duck' and chooses Leiite as her 'goose.' They chase each other around the circle and by the end of the game everyone has had a turn at being the 'duck' or the 'goose.'
This game suddenly comes to an end when once again Riiana suggests the group play hide and seek. Everyone agrees and runs off to hide. First of all they split up and hide in the'boathouse' or the garden. Next time round everyone decides to hide behind the sandpit, so they all soon get found. Never mind, as long as everyone had fun!!
These games provide opportunities for children to take on leadership roles, to use strategies and skills for enjoying a relationship with one another, such as taking turns and supporting others.
At Te Ao Hou we encourage our children to play games which are enjoyable and work better when done co-operatively.
